Want to get more out of your DIY cast pieces? Here are the best practical tips to ensure your colors turn out perfectly – right from the first cast!
1. Color intensity test
Make small test pours with different color ratios beforehand. Especially with light tones, the color may appear significantly paler after drying than when wet.
2. First dye, then raysin
First, add liquid dyes to the mixing water and stir thoroughly to ensure the pigments are evenly distributed before adding the Raysin powder.
3. Avoid air bubbles
Stir the mixture slowly and evenly, not too vigorously. Then tap the filled mold lightly on the table to allow any air bubbles to rise and escape.
4. Pour ombre effects
Mix different shades of color separately and pour them in one after the other. For smooth transitions, you can use a wooden stick.
5. Create marbling
Roughly mix two colors together to create exciting swirl or marble effects. They're especially beautiful for bowls, coasters, or organic shapes.
6. Set subsequent highlights
Details such as engravings, edges or recesses can be emphasized after shaping with metallic paints, acrylic or wax – for targeted accents with character.
7. Ensure reproducibility
Precisely weigh your paint portions and document your mixing ratios. This way, you can refill your favorite shades exactly at any time – perfect for sets or series.
